These kind of lies were bad enough when they were focused on the MMR (Measles Mumps and Rubella) vaccine, after fraudulent scientist Andrew Wakefield used false data to create a scare that lives on to this day. But in the age of coronavirus, social media has taken the problem to a new level. For many years those promoting anti-vaxx ideas were screened out by responsible media organisations. But the rise of social media changed everything. For the first time, people who advanced conspiracy theories had the same ability to push those ideas as scientists who based their arguments on evidence and facts.
