Share Updated: 9:20 AM CDT May 3, 2021 Severe storms produced two tornadoes and several hail reports in central and eastern Nebraska Sunday.One tornado was outside Aurora, Nebraska. There were reports of minor damage at a storage facility on the south side of the city.The other tornado was west of Stromsburg in Polk County. An horse trailer was flipped along highway 66.Both tornadoes were landspouts. These are tornados that develop from non-rotating thunderstorms, known as supercells. The rotation starts closer to the ground, and then connects with the thunderstorm. Landspouts are typically weak and happen very quickly. No tornado warnings were issued for either storm.There were several hail reports in eastern Nebraska. Most hailstones were 1 inch or smaller. There was one report of ping pong ball sized hail near Rising City, along the Polk and Butler County line.There were no severe weather reports in the Omaha metro. The city did get a welcome rainfall that ranged from 0.50" to 1.50".Along a line from York to Blair to Denison, 1 to 3 inches of rain fell Sunday evening through Monday morning. Rain totals were much lower north of that line and south of the Omaha metro.
