Marie eight months to find someone to take over as manager of their wastewater treatment plant, and they’re still looking to fill other positions including chief of police. City Manager Brian Chapman says there are a few reasons why it’s so hard to hire people for local government. “One of them is our rural nature, kind of being located on the fringe of Michigan here, but a lot of the positions that we’re recruiting for have some form of technical or professional license and those applicants just aren’t seeking out those jobs anymore,” he said.
