UK move to recognise overseas architects’ qualifications is ‘really good news’
Planned legislation to recognise overseas architects’ professional qualifications in the UK has been widely welcomed
The government said the introduction of the Professional Qualifications Bill to Parliament yesterday (12 May) would help the country 'address where the demand for skills is not currently being met'.

The AJ understands that, as confidence and workloads returns, there are already signs of a potential shortage of staff at UK practices, in part due to the drop in EU-qualified architects working in the country following Brexit.
Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said the proposed new law would help create ‘a clearer framework’ for recognising overseas titles such as ‘architect’. He said: ‘Having left the European Union, this vital piece of legislation will ensure skilled professionals from around the world are able to have their qualifications recognised in the UK, allowing us to attract the brightest and best as we build back better.’
