The Iron Range/UMD Graduate Engineering Education Program starts in the fall and will be housed at the Mesabi Range Community and Technical College in Virginia. "For so many years, there has been such a concentration of talented engineers on the Iron Range," said Jim Riehl, dean of UMD's Swenson College of Science and Engineering, which will run the program. "There really has been no opportunity for them to advance their knowledge or training without having to do it over ... nontraditional ways or to travel."
