Unite pays tribute to activists for lifelong commitment to workers’ rights Johnny Bugeja 7th May 2021 A group of Unite the Union activists and shop stewards were yesterday recognised for their longstanding commitment to the defence of workers’ rights in Gibraltar. During an emotional ceremony at Transport House, Unite’s Christian Duo presented two members, Joseph “Pepe” Peliza and Julio Pons, with the Unite (TGWU) Recognition award. Family members also accepted posthumous awards for Luis Sampere, Ernest “Tito” Galliano and Ronald Caetano. “Today we give thanks to five individuals, some of whom are no longer with us but who have left an important legacy in the trade union movement,” said Mr Duo.
