Updated: First rotating led lamp in a US lighthouse Oak Island Lighthouse in North Carolina is the first in the US to get a rotating led beacon – a few others have been retrofitted with static led lamps. UPDATE: The Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse have sent a spec for the light (see below) “This upgrade is the Coast Guard’s first led-based rotating beacon for an active aid to navigation and will provide a permanent, cost-effective and energy-efficient solution for the lighthouse,” according to the US Coast Guard which maintains the light. “Necessary renovations of the lighthouse to prepare for the new beacon began in October.”
