On December 17, 2021, the United States military announced that its troop withdrawal from Somalia is complete. The decision to withdraw the US troops from Somalia was one of the last major decisions taken in the Presidency of Donald Trump. On December 4, 2020, the Pentagon said in a statement that the United States President Donald Trump ordered the Department of Defence and the United States Africa Command to reposition the majority of personnel and assets out of Somalia by early 2021. According to the statement, “The US. is not withdrawing or disengaging from Africa. We remain committed to our African partners and enduring support through a whole-of-government approach.
