VB delegate wins AG nomination while GOP convention counting continues Photo: WINA RICHMOND (WINA) – Virginia Beach Delegate and attorney Jason Miyares is the Virginia Republicans’ selection to run for Attorney General in November. After the count for that race was complete Sunday, Miyares wrapped up the win with nearly 52% of Saturday convention votes to 48% for runner-up Chuck Smith. The James Madison University undergrad and William & Mary law grad was a prosecutor in Virginia Beach who is now in private practice. The count continues in the races for Governor and Lt. Governor. The Virginia GOP chose to select nominees using a ranked-order voting system, which requires rounds of tabulations until a candidate can get over 50% of the vote in race. They also have chosen to hand count, so no machines are involved, which is resulting in a long counting process. It’s not known how long this will last.
