Vermicompost comes to Lalbagh After Cubbon Park, it is now the turn of Lalbagh Botanical Garden to use the vermicompost method to put waste to better use. The vermicompost would be used as manure for saplings planted at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden. “We have established the vermicompost unit. We procure cow dung from the National Dairy Research Unit in order to convert waste generated here into vermicompost. We can generate 50 tonnes of vermicompost in six months,’’ said Lalbagh Botanical Garden Deputy Director G Kusuma. Vermicomposting is a method of preparing compost with the use of earthworms. It is one of the methods to recycle agricultural wastes and to produce compost.
