Vermonters may notice a familiar brand in an unexpected isle of the grocery store in the near future. The Waitsfield-based Cabot brand is launching a line of boxed macaroni and cheese at "select stores" in the Northeast, according to a member of the investment group backing the product. Vermont Cheese Products, Inc., a new company, has received a license from Cabot to produce a line of macaroni and cheese products, among others. It's being backed financially by Alpine Summit Capital Partners, a Vermont-based private equity firm launched in 2018 to help "leverage brands' value" into new categories. "Many of today's best-selling consumer snacks are cheese-based products," Vermont Cheese Products CEO Adam Farmer said. "But no other snack food brand in the US, especially on the East Coast, has the consumer affiliation nor the B Corp certification we found with Cabot."Their first product will be a "Seriously Sharp" boxed mac and cheese line, a reference to the group's cheese branding. It will be followed by a line of popcorn in sharp cheddar, pepper jack and maple cheddar flavors. Seasonal variations, such as apple pie cheddar popcorn, are also expected to hit shelves. A spokesperson for ASCP said potato chips are also being considered, but details on flavors or a potential release date were not provided. "All of our products are made with the exact same, award-winning cheese that has made Cabot a household name," Farmer said.
