Read Article WEST PARIS — Three public hearings will be held at the Ring-McKeen Post 151 American Legion Hall on Thursday April, 8. Expected to draw the most interest, is a resolution that would make West Paris a Second Amendment Sanctuary town. Resident Robert Carey asked selectmen to sign the resolution at a select board meeting in March, but town officials agreed that they should get input from the public before making any decisions. No voting on the resolution will occur at the hearing, but a special town meeting will be scheduled soon after to see what residents want to do. The language of the resolution says the town would “provide sanctuary from law enforcement attempts to enforce any and all state and federal mandates and restricted laws enacted that would violate the original intent of protections given individuals under the United States Constitution as well as the State of Maine Constitution that states ‘shall never be questioned.”
