Reporter that keeps heat exhaustion and heat away, theyve got the free bottle wear your hats, umbrellas, and with the water at 74 degrees, plenty of people in the ocean and the lifeguards here, awesome eagle eyes keeping currents. The southeast wind kicks up pretty strong and we get this chop that youre seeing now, this wind chop so it does help our rips become a little more dangerous so we are pushing our swimmers always over, maybe dangerous. Thats what we are looking for all day long. Reporter now, the lifeguards tell me that a couple of weekends ago they had to make a lot of rescues. They said water today was flat and thats good. Coming up at 6 00, the lifeguard captain actually shows us what they are looking for when they are looking out for those rip currents. This weekend i was over in new jersey where they had a very tiny quake. Its funny how the reaction is completely different. Here in new jersey its like oh, what a big deal, 2. 5. Yeah, but there you always wonder if theres going to be something serious. Hopefully not. No, hopefully not. Jeff, how is it feeling out there . Not as bad as it felt before. We hit the 95degree mark after 1 00 this afternoon when the sun was the highest in the sky, by the way, right after mid date. So thats when it felt the worse, then we had a couple storms pop up near the city and over parts of the city, over parts of the bronx, Yankee Stadium had a downpour for a while. Thankfully that game not starting until 7 05 tonight. But heres a view right now over towards central park, we have had little showers trying to develop at times over the city and thats actually helped cool us down a little bit. Some of the cooler air from up above comes down in the atmosphere and spreads out from the showers so the temperature down to 86. Humidity still up there at 55 , look at the high on the day getting up to 95 after a morning low of only 78 degrees so we barely got below 80 last night in new york city. So the normal high this time of year is 83, typically in late august you start tailing off in terms of your average high temperatures but not the case this year, Mother Nature doesnt care about the calendar. 95 was your record back in 1944 and we of course tied that just after noon today, the sun setting at 7 52. So still steamy tomorrow, spotty storm mainly north and west of the city, really in this type of air mass you cant guarantee a dry day. These storms can just pop up out of nowhere, much like happened yesterday and then today right near the George Washington bridge you had downpours for a while earlier this afternoon. Near normal temperatures on wednesday and thursday but that humidity will really stick around. Our next chance at more thunderstorm activity is very night. So this High Pressure offshore basically acting as a heat pump over the eastern part of the country, that southwest wind behind it pumping all that moisture and heat up from the gulf of mexico states, heat index value 95 to 100 degrees, calm during the hottest part of the day. Right now fallen to 86 in the park. Newark at 96, 97 at morristown, 88 down the shore at belmar, upper 80s on the we are stuck between uncomfortable and oppressive on the dew point scale there. And because its been such a muggy atmosphere, a couple of these storms have popped up during the course of the day. Those have really weakened in and around new york city but we had one storm that popped up, downpour southwest of smithtown between smithtown and dix hills on long island heading toward the l. I. E. Dont be surprised if you see rain drops on the windshield there, also north of i78 parts of warren county, new jersey. Still steamy out there tomorrow, not quite as hot, though. The high getting up to 91. Tomorrows record high is 94, set back in 2002, not expecting to reach that. 84 still could be a couple of thunderstorms in the afternoon. The accuweather forecast for tonight maybe a stray thunderstorm early and then just quite warm and sticky with patchy clouds, a low getting down to 78. Sunny to partly cloudy, hot, humid tomorrow, a spotty afternoon thunderstorm mainly north and west of the city but cant rule one out anywhere, 91, spotty storm early tomorrow morning and then patchy clouds, warm and humid, we are down to 75. Again we are talking later in the week, maybe some bigger thunderstorms thursday night. After that, its a more significant air mass change if you want some relief from this heat and humidity and next half hour im going to follow my own conditioned environment and join you guys in there. Jacket. Smart one. Roll up the sleeves. Its more of a pain. Come on in, then. Reporter ill be in soon. Thanks, jeff. Ever . The move from one fast food Franchise Owner that some are calling unimaginable. We are going to explain. Plus one pro football father taking a controversial stand with his kids. W
