The 46 candidates include five military members from 28 different countries. In center city today, 13 children from around the world will officially become citizens of the United States. This naturalization ceremony takes place at the betsy ross house at 1 30 this afternoon. It will be followed by a symbolic bell ringing by americas newest citizens as part of the let freedom ring program. It has been just a little bit more than a week since the landmark samesex marriage ruling. It was 50 years ago today gay and lesbian activists laid the foundation for the lbgt Civil Rights Movement by demonstrating in front of Independence Hall. New from overnight, a man is dead following an officerinvolved shooting in camden. The man called 911 from his car threatening to kill himself and police. Two officers found the vehicle unoccupied at the intersection of bergen and harrison avenues. As the officers exited their patrol car, the suspect approached them with a loaded gun. They shot and stopped him by killing him. Both officers have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an investigation. In north Philadelphia Police are investigating a double shooting that left two men injured. It happened at intersection of erie and germantown avenues. One is in stable condition at Temple University hospital. The other is in critical at temple. No word yet on a suspect or motive. A fight in University City ended in a shooting just outside of a dormitory in the heart of penns campus. Police say two groups were arguing at a nearby by just after 2 00 this morning. When the fight spilled outside, a group of men in a car with maryland plates opened fire. The two men 32 and 29 were shot and sent to the hospital. They returned fire with guns they were legally carrying. Police were notified about the shooting first. Then philly police. So far no arrests. Tonight from 9 00 to 10 00 there will be fireworks launched from an offshore barge. The delaware beaches are also a popular destination this weekend. Almost 70,000 drivers are expected to pass through the tolls on state route 1 which is the main road to the delaware beaches. That number of drivers, by the way, is up from last year possibly because of cheaper gas. Other folks will be spending some time for the pocono mountains. Here is a live look at the lake. Meteorologist Brittney Shipp says the chance of rain is greater in the poconos. Keep that nearby. Nearby at the Mountain Water park, kids will be spending time on the water slides. It opens at 9 00 today and there will be fireworks there at 7 00 this evening. And thats just the rehearsal. In washington crews and performers did a run through last night for this years a capitol fourth celebration. Its in its 35th year. It features a huge Fireworks Show and plenty of music. Three people questioned by police in the murder of an 85yearold east mt. Airy woman are now in custody. Her car was steelen monday. Police found it abandoned in north philly on tuesday. Officers also found her computer at a row home on west oak lane. Allentown Officials Say they are cooperating fully with the fbi after a raid on city hall. Federal agents seized several documents from the building yesterday and questioned the mayor as part of a grand jury investigation. The city Spokesman Says he believes the process is under review. We also reached out to the mayor but have yet to hear back. There are some new developments in the Corruption Case against zbhooirgetzbob menendez. Theyve asked the judge to hold a hearing on the issue. Menendez was charged with conspiracy and bribery in april. He is accused of accepting bribes from a florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors. The senator says he is innocent. Next a year after a deadly fire in southwest philadelphia neighbors are still struggling to cope with the devastation. Tomorrow will mark one year since a massive fire gutted a neighborhood in southwest philadelphia. The gesner street blaze claimed the lives of four Young Children and left nearly half the block in charred shambles. Must of that destruction remains today. Fire started on a couch on the porch of a row home on gesner street early in the morning last july 5th. The flames spread down the block forcing residents to jump from their windows. But four Young Children could yacht not escape. Nbc 10s digital team returned to the block to find out how neighbors are coping with the disaster one year later. The row homes remain standing but boarded up and burned out. Neighbors like block captain Tyrone Watson who you see right here tell us they feel abandoned by the landlords who own the homes and by the city of philadelphia. As much as you tell us youre accomplishing something and you walk out your door and you see this, youre not getting anywhere. What can we do . You know, we expect the city to do something. But you believe the city is you know giving the owners a chance to do their part. We are learning more about a plan to build a security fence that will surround sections of the city during the popes visit to philadelphia in september. Sources tell nbc 10 there are discussions about fencing off a large portion around the ben franklin parkway. This would shut it down to traffic and change pedestrian routes. Secret Service Agents have been talking about their plans to some local businesses including the embassy suites. The restrictions around the hotel is going to be a 13 foot barrier from the door to the street. Our frontage will be closed completely. Sources say the fencing is expected to go up the monday before pope francis visit for the world meeting of families.
