Reporter witnessing this historic fall of the Confederate Flag over South Carolinas capitol is a moment they will forever embrace. Even watching it on a tv screen from the Pennsylvania Convention center. I had a great great uncle who was lynched under the flag and my great grandmother had to take care of him. Reporter kenny and his sister are united having felt the divide and hatred they say associated with the symbolic battle flag in their native north carolina. Even running into the woods from the ku klux klan. People used to throw things at us and use the n word go home and we were only third and fourth graders at the time. Reporter as young girls they crossed the Railroad Tracks among the first black students to attend a white school. So for those of us who actually lived through the segregation, who lived through the fear of the flag because you know, when you see it on a truck or on a teeshirt, the fear comes up. Reporter the flag coming down as much about the future as it is the past. I was almost in tears. It makes me hopeful that maybe, just maybe they will take it down in mississippi. This is like finally being validated of what everyone went through and its United States of america and we need to have the American Flag flying over the capitol. We can tell you South Carolina leaders put the Confederate Flag over the state house dome in 1961 to mark the 100th anniversary of the civil war. The flag remains there to represent official opposition to the civil rights movement. In 2000 it was moved to the flagpole as part of a compromise compromise. After leaving the state house today, the flag was brought to the confederate relic room and Military Museum to be part of a multimillion dollar shrine that lawmakers promise to build. In our area the flag flies in Pennsville Salem county. Defenders of the flag say its a piece of history that cannot be forgotten or hidden. At 5 00 for the second time in about a week the fbi raided the offices of a local city this time in reading, berks county. Nbc 10 cameras followed about a dozen agents as they took computers and documents out of reading city hall. They appear to be focused on the office of mayor vaughn spencer. A democrat elected in 2011. Agents also raided the mayors home. Spencer was unavailable for comment but the City Solicitor says they are cooperating. Obviously taking some documents and some records. I wont tell you exactly what theyre lookingx i really cant comment on what theyre confiscating. Last week agents raided allentown city hall focusing on that citys mayor. At this point the fbi will not say whether the two cases are connected. Allentowns mayor told nbc 10 hes cooperating and suspended his campaign for senate while the investigation takes place. All i can tell them is there is an Ongoing Investigation and to let the investigation take its course. We are doing business as usual here in the city and i am continuing to be mayor. The two mayors have one thing in common. They both hired the same Campaign Consultant michael fleck, who recently shuttered his Political Consulting firm. The National Weather service says three tornadoes touched down in pennsylvania yesterday and this was the site of one of them. Incredible images out of berks county thanks to sky force 10 this morning. Thats only part of the story. A woman was inside that building when the tornado blew through. Jim rosenfield with her story. Reporter the National Weather service is still in tilden township investigating. Around 3 00 this afternoon they did confirm an ef1 tornado touched down in berks county with maximum winds of 105 miles an hour. Take a look at the video from the ground. The roof ripped off that building, classrooms cluttered with debris. Looks eerie with no ceiling but some walls Still Standing here. Books and papers scattered across whats left of this elementary school. Fortunately, school of course not in session but ,ej the principal was inside when the storm hit. I remember a bang and then just being on the floor and hearing noise and things on top of me. It never felt heavy so i dont know what was on top of me. I think ceiling tiles. Then once it was quiet, kind of found my way up and over what was left of a wall and down the hallway. Rn8z what an experience. Amazing to think she made it out of this without even a scratch. The other two tornadoes that touched down last night were both in central pennsylvania. Lets get an update now on our first alert weather. Much different scene from last night as we take a look. Look at the visibility. You can see forever. If the earth wasnt round, you could see forever. But you can see the atmosphere is as clean as it gets for this time of year. Theres hardly a cloud in the sky throughout the area. But to the west there is moisture and there are clouds. So some of those may graze parts of the area later tonight and into tomorrow. Least likely to affect the poconos. They are definitely on the safe end of this. 80 degrees in pottstown and lancaster. 85 in philadelphia. So far thats the high today. The Ocean Temperatures still pretty warm 73. Way above average for this time of year. As we go through the evening with the clear skies and low humidity, the temperatures going to drop significantly. 74 in philadelphia by 11 00. In the 60s in many suburbs. But things will be changing as we head into next week. We will talk about that threat and what will happen to the clouds to the west with the sevenday. Speaking of weather, good news for people whose homes were battered by recent storms in south jersey. In just the last hour we have learned that state lawmakers are working on getting a disaster declaration sent to the president sometime next week. It would cover camden gloucester burlington and atlantic counties. This is video taken after the june 23rd storm that left thousands of people in south jersey without electricity for nearly a week. Happening now, protesters are gathering in love park to push for new laws in favor of marijuana. Nbc 10s drew smith joins us live in center city. These protesters were willing to break the law in order to get their point across. Reporter so far, no arrests. It has been a peaceful rally that lasted about an hour. You can see they have gathered here at the corner of 16th and jfk boulevard and are going to be marching on the streets. Thats a headsup if you are heading into center city. You can see the police have blocked off jfk boulevard at this point and all of these folks will be heading down towards 17th street and then hooking a left and heading on toward a couple of offices of u. S. Senators. Obviously, its 5 00 on a friday so thosegr. D offices are closed right now but the protesters say they will stop outside the offices, say that they demand a comprehensive bill that legalizes medical marijuana in the state of pennsylvania and then they will wrap around and end on broad and locust where they will be stopping at the office of Governor Tom Wolf somebody who has said he would sign legislation supporting medical marijuana. You can see the marchers heading toward us right now holding up a sign that says cannabis is medicine. They are hoping they can get some attention with this march right now. Again, if you are heading to center city it will be a challenge if you are driving because the streets are closed off right now. The march just starting. Thats the latest. Im drew smith, nbc 10 news. Now to decision 2016. New jersey governor and republican president ial candidate Chris Christie has released his first tv campaign ad. The topic, the need for strong leadership. Were going to lead. We have to stop worrying about being loved and start caring about being respected again. According to political experts, this ad is targeting the early voting state of new hampshire. Governor christie has held several town Hall Meetings there since announcing his run for president last week. Right now, christie is one of 14 candidates seeking the republican nomination. Two more candidates are expected to launch campaigns later this month. On the democratic side five candidates are competing for the president ial nomination. Making schools safer. The changes that could be made in your childs classroom. Plus we are celebrating the u. S. Womens world cup team. We will take a trip down todays parade route and hear from new jerseys own carli lloyd. It was a guilty verdict today in wilmington in a high profile crime involving several members of the same lotlfamily. Jurors found David Matusiewicz you see here along with his mother and sister guilty of conspiracy and cyberstalking. The stalking led to the murder of davids exwife christine belford. In february 2013 she and a friend were shot to death inside the New Castle County courthouse by davids father thomas matusiewicz. Thomas later killed himself. Just is the Department Officials believe this is the first case where someone has been convicted on federal charges of cyberstalking resulting in death. This carries a possible life sentence. David matusiewicz, his mother and sister will be sentenced in october. A new report suggests all new Jersey Schools should have a specially Trained Police officer. Its one of the 42 recommendations from the Security Panel convened after the School Massacre in connecticut. Cost is the concern when it comes to hiring specially Trained Police officers but some districts already have resource officers. The report also recommends requiring all students and staff to wear visible Identification Cards at all times and it advises districts to check the names of School Visitors against a data base of registered sex offenders. Fun in the sun in west philadelphia. The 18th Police District sponsored this block party today. There was a big turnout. A lot of activities for the cute little kids. It was a chance for officers to get to know the people they serve. A local Charity Wants to break a world record today and help some kids in camden in the process. The group feed our children now is trying to gather the most food at one location in an eighthour period. The food drive at campbells field in camden is part of todays concert. Theres another dropoff location at the sufksquehanna bank center. There will be a lot of food. I know campbell donated a bunch of food thats being loaded on trucks kids are coming by. If you come up short, a lot of people still get help. Anyone who donates three cans of food gets to skip the line for tonights concert and get into the show a little bit earlier. Sounds worth it. As you are getting ready to eat dinner why not cook up the president s favorite food. Know what it is . Broccoli. Broccoli. How about that . President obama crashed the first ladys annual kids state dinner today. Children from each state submitted healthy recipes. The winning chefs were invited to the white house. The president said his favorite recipe is barackamoli featuring his favorite food, broccoli. You eat, the more you are used to eating healthier when youre younger, you will be much healthier when youre older, too. Emilys winning recipe is spinach power salad with mandarin vinaigrette. They got to tour the white house garden today. Very cool. Thousands of fans lined the streets of new york city today to congratulate the womens world cup soccer champions. From the sidewalks of Lower Manhattan to an office perch where girls from the west side soccer club whoa here we go reporter got an unforgettable view. We wanted to praise them for their accomplishment and come and support the team. Reporter the support turned a parade into a powerful statement. Following their dreams. Its just amazing. Its overdue. Amazing to see that we can take this big huge step and be happy about it and be proud. Reporter make no mistake, it wasnt only women in the crowd. I have been a soccer fan my whole life. I definitely wanted to come out and see the womens team. Reporter from little boys to grown men, men should get parades all the time. Reporter this was the first, so families showed their spirit. I believe that we just won reporter who have been chanting ever since sundays game. We watched the game we went to a sports bar. They only had soda. They dont get as much recognition as the mens team. Reporter but they did today. Recognition from the battery to city hall and seen on tv all around the world. That was andrew siff reporting. The parade ended in front of city hall where each team member was given a key to the city. Its been unbelievable. The world cup was a dream come true but having this parade here in new york city was one of the best moments of my entire life and we all feel the same. So thank you guys for all your support. We are going to have a lot of pictureperfect weather this weekend over most of the area but there is one exception. Those storms will return next week. Maybe not as severe as the one we saw last night but some thunderstorms. Look how blue that sky]n is. This is looking right outside the station. Just a couple fair weather clouds. 85 degrees the wind west at 12 miles an hour relative humidity 38 . So theres no additional discomfort with the higher humidity like we normally get in july. Temperatures are in the low to mid 80s across most of the area except for the pocono mountains. We are even in the mid 80s right at the jersey shore beaches because of the northwest wind. Its a land breeze and the wind of course is the critical thing. We will be seeing some sea breezes at the shore over the weekend so it wont be quite as warm as it is right now. 84 in avalon 82 in beach haven. Lewes, delaware 78. Little wind coming in off of the cooler delaware bay. Now look at that. Theres supposed to be clouds there. Its a satellite picture. But there are clouds to the west and some showers. Theyre not moving up this way. Theyre moving a little bit south to east which is going to keep it generally south of our area. Part of our area will be on the Northern Edge of this and get some clouds as we go into tomorrow morning. So okay thats not pictureperfect for parts of delaware and even Cape May County. This particular model is keeping the rain south of even the state of delaware but theres a chance about a 30 chance of a little bit of rain at the delaware beaches tomorrow. So the clouds will be on the south. The rest of the area lot of sunshine. Temperatures in the upper 70s. Beautiful weather everywhere on sunday. Water temperature, 73 which is way above average for this time of year. Lots of sunshine in the poconos. Theres no concern about that system to the west. Low humidity light winds. Doesnt get much better than that. Mostly clear, comfortable tonight. 69 for the low in philadelphia. 59 north and west. Thats pretty cool comfortable for this time of year. A mix of sunshine little cloud cover to the south for at least part of the day. Temperatures into the upper 80s and the humidity still pretty low. The humidity doesnt really go up a whole lot sunday. Sunshine, yeah it will be hot but not especially humid. Then similar story monday. Hot but not too humid.
