Investigators say the suspect, Daniel Khalil clary admitted to shooting at kelly and another trooper before the troopers returned fire and hit him. We are learning more about the battle that unfolded before the gunfire, steven. Reporter it went from a traffic stop to a wrestling match and then the trooper was shot. Fortunately he carried a turn kwet on him like the one i have here around my leg. Police tell us after he was shot multiple times he was still able to adjust the turn kwet around one of his wounds. We are watching the video from the troopers camera. We see everything going on. Route 33 southbound. Reporter state Police Watched dashcam video that captured the horrifying events. All three were wrestling in the right lane of route 33. There were no vehicles coming at the time. Reporter Corporal Seth Kelly and trooper ryan siepal tased 22yearold Daniel Khalil clary. Clary fell but not free and ran to get a gun from his car. He comes over the top of the roof of his vehicle, firing on both of our troopers. Corporal kelly was along the passenger side of the vehicle. Trooper siepal was behind the vehicle. There is one trooper shot. Reporter Corporal Kelly was shot multiple times in the neg, shoulder and leg but continued to fire back and hit clarey as he attempted to drive away. When the shooting stopped Corporal Kelly was severely injured but still able to act quickly. He carries a tourniquet on his belt and he pulled it off his belt and applied it to one of his wounds. More than likely saving his own life. Reporter Police Paperwork says after clary drove himself to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds he admitted to shooting at both troopers and trying to take their gun. The two Police Officers had to use deadly force to protect themselves. I dont think that will be an issue in this case. Reporter corporal telly is still in Critical Condition in the hospital. They say he was high on marijuana and failed field sobriety tests before wrestling with troopers and then grabbing a gun from his car that he had no license to carry. The victory came as virginia also picked a new democratic governor. Democrats celebrating historic elections in Delaware County, beating out republican incumbents for two county council seats. The last time a democrat served on Delaware County council was in 1980. Democrats had historic wins in key races in bucks county as well. Congressional democrats are celebrating as well saying last nights results opened the door for them to retake power next year. Chuck schumer called the results a rejection of President Trump and his policies. He warned they should be a stop sign for the republican tax plan. Then some showers in the evening through the philadelphia area and south jersey. And then, whoa it does get cold. Friday, even at noontime, its 29 degrees in allentown. That is cold. Tomorrow, we have a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures in the 50s across much of the area. You can see one of the warm spots is rehoboth beach. Then the cold air comes in. These are high temperatures. 43 in philadelphia friday. 42 saturday at night well be in the 20s throughout the area. That is just incredibly cold for this time of the year. The average high, 59. Sunday we warm up a little bit. 52. But thats still well below normal. And even next week were talking about temperatures way below normal with some rain added to the picture. On the bottom of the screen. That is covering thousands and thousands of miles, and when its like that, it affects weather patterns all over the world. All over the pacific. Our weather comes from west to east. Right. That is a very important factor. Not necessarily even the air but the water is a big clue. Right. Tonight were learning new information about a knockdown, dragout fight that turned into a shootout that left an officer injured and clinging to life. Corporal seth kelly is in Critical Condition<\/a>. The 13year veteran was assisting another trooper with a traffic stop. They started wrestling in the middle of a busy highway. The suspect got a gun and shot Corporal Kelly<\/a> several times. He returned fire. After the gunfight stopped he was able to apply a tiourniquet to his wounds. He carries it on his belt. He pulled it off his belt and applied it to one of his wounds. More than likely saving his own life. Corporal kelly had emergency surgery yesterday.
