A Massive Wildfire is taking aim at homes in southern california. Thousands are rushing to evacuate as crews try to get the blaze under control. Overnight we learned that at least one person has been killed. Nbc10s matt delucia joins us live in the digital operations center. Matt, officials have been warning that this could happen. Reporter because wildfires like this are fueled by strong santa ana winds. Some gusts have topped 60 Miles Per Hour. That plus the fact that you have all the vegetation and brush that hasnt burned for decades, and theres been a drought. A very bad combination. We are seeing more mandatory evacuations going into effect. Weve also seen, take a look, some dramatic images coming out of california. The fire is moving very quickly. Moving into heavily populated areas. We did mention one person died while evacuating while their car was overturned. The wind has been pushing the fire about 60 miles west of los angeles and has about 30,000 residents. The fire is also nearing the city of ventura which has just over 100,000 residents. You must abide by evacuation notices. We saw the losses that happened up north in snowa. This is sonoma. This is a fast, dangerousmoving fire. Reporter ive been keeping my eye on the fire developments out of california. Officials just putton an update a few minutes put out an update a few minutes ago saying it will hit ventura in an hour. In a victory for President Trump, the administration can now enforce the immigration travel ban on people traveling to the u. S. Fro mainly muslim countries. In a 72 decision, the high court restricted visas from these countries iran, libya, somalia, syria, and yemen. People from north korea are also limited. We spoke to an immigration lawyer who said the latest version of the ban is less restrictive than the original one last january. That ban caused his clients, a family from allentown, to be sent to their home country of syria despite working 14 years to get the proper paperwork to come here. The lawyer is concerned for another client from syria whos supposed to arrive in philadelphia on an investment visa. Were fear follow that hes going to be fearful that hes going to be pushed back because of the new travel ban. Whats shocking or troublesome about it being lifted by the Supreme Court, that it now can be effectively immediately. The ucla says it plans to aclu says it plans to fight the travel ban saying it is illegal because it is discriminatory and bigoted. Today the Supreme Court will take up the case for a colorado baker who says banking a cake for a gay wedding would violate his freedom of expression. The engaged he turned down in 2012 said the baker discriminated against him. The baker appealed to the high court after the colorado courts decided in favor of the couple. The justices are expected to rule by june. 4 35. At the u. S. Capitol, republicans in the house and senate are trying to merge their respective tax bills into one so they can pass on to President Trump. The Senate Passed their bill over the weekend. The house approved theirs last month. The senates version lowers the individual tax rate for most american families. Democrats say People Living in high tax states will lose their state and local income Tax Deduction at the expense of benefiting big business. Republicans are hoping to get a final bill to President Trump by christmas. And nbc10 spoke to pat toomey yesterday. The Pennsylvania Republican played a key role in the senates tax bill. Toomey called the passage a tremendous legislative accomplishment. Virtually all low and middle income taxpayers will see a net tax cut. I think the scope of the bill that they pass sudden going to create such passed is going to create such a huge deficit that we have an enormous problem on our hands. A joint government report of taxation says the senate bill would hike the National Debt by trillions. An update on the stabbing in philadelphia that we brought you as breaking news yesterday. Savannah farrow faces charges that she murdered the 65yearold man. Police found his body in the upstairs bedroom of his home on johnston street yesterday. Farrow is in jail without bail. Follow being the deaths of two following the deaths two of students, Temple University is telling students to watch out for others and seek help if needed. Two students died, one found unresponsive in the library. The medical Examiners Office said both died from drug intoxication.
