January 22, 2021 Happy weekend! It’s time to have some fun, family style! We rounded up activities everyone can enjoy. Have a look! On Saturday, Morris County Park Commission will host Maple Sugaring Demonstrations at Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center (247 Southern Boulevard, Chatham Township). Learn how to identify and tap maple trees, collect sap, and make syrup over a wood-fired evaporator. This year, the program will be held entirely outdoors. 1-hour sessions will begin at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. Cost is $5 per person age 3 and up. Children under 3 are free. Preregistration is required. The Newark Museum of Art will host a Virtual Family Drop-In: Pocket Solar Systems. This fun, hands-on activity will be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and is recommended for children ages 5-10. Our solar system is home to the Sun, several major planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. But how far apart is everything? Build a simple scale model of the distances between the planets, the asteroid belt, and the Kuiper belt. Registration and a list of materials for the project are available on the website. This online event is free.
