Share Updated: 9:24 AM EDT Apr 27, 2021 WLWT Digital Staff WLWT Digital Staff The West Chester Police Department is welcoming a new member this week, K9 officer Max.One-year-old Max will report for duty starting this week.The Dutch Shepherd recently graduated from an intensive, six-week K9 training program at Shallow Creek Kennels, a premier police service dog training facility located in northwestern Pennsylvania.Officer Mike Veeneman has been assigned to work with Max. Max will be taking over for K9 Jax, joining other K9 Rico in the department's K9 unit, which was founded in 1993.Max was purchased through the Matt Haverkamp Foundation, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting law enforcement agencies in the tri-state area. Training was funded by a local resident with a passion for dogs.
