Sentinel Staff Four West Michigan county health departments announced Thursday they will no longer issue countywide orders requiring school districts to comply with state guidelines for COVID-19 quarantine. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services advised the health departments of Ottawa, Kent, Muskegon and Ionia counties on May 5 that the enforcement of MDHHS’ guidelines must be by local health department order. The health departments told school districts within their jurisdictions they're not issuing orders requiring the districts to comply with MDHHS’ quarantine guidelines, according to a joint news release. The health departments considered current epidemiological trends, increasing vaccination coverage rates and the availability of safe and effective vaccines.
