Like many local advocacy organizations, we’re waiting for Mayor Muriel Bowser’s budget to drop. It’s likely to come out May 27, to account for as-of-yet unreleased guidance on federal relief funds. But before budget season is the DC Council’s performance oversight process, during which councilmembers question the agencies they oversee. Oversight is, arguably, just as important as the budget. Councilmembers typically question agencies about the work they do, how they do it, how they deliver the services they provide, and whether or not they are performing well, which allows them to better understand the resources, financial or otherwise, that they need to carry out their work.
