As the weather warms up, folks are turning outdoors for solace. Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, health officials continue to emphasize the importance of social distancing when possible. For many who want to make up for lost time with family and friends, and get outside, kayaking has become a popular pastime. There are more kayakers than ever, said Mike Parker, communications director with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. "People are itching to get out this spring," he said. "Last year, we sold 40% more launch permits than we did in 2019." Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Fish and Boat Commission has advocated for outdoor activities, saying activities like fishing, kayaking and others can be done safely.
