WHO events around the Union World Conference on Lung Health

The World Health Organization (WHO) is organizing a series of in-person meetings, events and symposia in Paris around the 53rd Union World Conference on Lung Health in collaboration with partners and civil society. Here are some highlights of confirmed events.Please watch this space; additional events will be announced.11 November 2023: WHO and Unitaid consultation: transforming the TB response by driving affordable, accessible solutions to reach the most vulnerableVenue: Hyatt Regency Paris EtoileThis annual 1-day consultation will be the first to be held in-person since 2019. Key stakeholders, including national staff and technical partners, across different Unitaid projects supported by the WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme will meet to discuss progress in implementation, share available results to date, and identify key implementation bottlenecks. The meeting will amplify learnings from innovative Unitaid projects with other countries in terms of tools, approaches and implementation models. Unitaid will also announce upcoming areas of work prioritized for funding.12 November 2023: Global Meeting of the Working Group on Public-Private Mix for TB Prevention and Care (PPM Working Group)Venue: Hyatt Regency Paris EtoileThis 1-day meeting of the global PPM Working Group will bring together national TB programme managers, policy makers, representatives from the private sector, civil society, academia, field experts, international technical partners, and development agencies to share experiences and discuss strategies to accelerate public-private sector engagement efforts. Discussions at the meeting will focus on the role of the private sector and the unengaged public sector in contributing towards translating the commitments of the second UN High Level Meeting on TB into action, and on ongoing efforts to strengthen PPM monitoring and accountability through the TB-PPM Dashboard Initiative.13 - 14 November 2023: 9th WHO End TB Strategy SummitVenue: Hyatt Regency Paris EtoileThe 2 day-meeting will be open to National TB programme officials from the highest TB burden countries and countries on the Global Watchlist, civil society task force (CSTF) representatives, and other partners. Through dialogue, sharing of experiences, promotion of new tools and best practices, interactions will be focused on key actions needed to implement the political declaration of the 2023 United Nations High level meeting on TB.14 November: Annual meeting of the Child and Adolescent TB Working Group and launch of the 2023 Roadmap towards ending TB in children and adolescentsVenue: Hyatt Regency Paris EtoileThis 1-day annual meeting will be open to all working group members. The purpose of the meeting is to share new developments and country experiences in scaling up the response to child and adolescent TB and to discuss next steps to move the agenda forward. During the meeting WHO will also launch the 2023 Roadmap towards ending TB in children and adolescents, which will outline the key actions that must be taken to address the persistent gaps in the prevention, management and care of TB in these age groups, in the context of the provision of Universal Health Coverage.14 November: WHO and TDR Meeting on operational research on the treatment decision algorithms for the detection of pulmonary TB in children (<10 years)Venue: Hyatt Regency Paris EtoileThis two-hour meeting targets groups of researchers and programme staff who are conducting operational research on the WHO integrated treatment decision algorithms for the detection of pulmonary TB in children. These groups are either using the TDA4Child operational research package or are conducting related research. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss progress and challenges with the planning and implementation of studies to generate data to evaluate the performance, feasibility, acceptability and impact of treatment decision algorithms for pulmonary TB in children.15 November: WHO Global TB SymposiumVenue: Palais des CongrèsWHO’s Global TB Symposium will bring together countries, partners and civil society linked to the TB response globally and nationally to discuss how the TB response can be accelerated following the commitments made by world leaders at the second UN High Level Meeting on TB. The symposium will also showcase the work undertaken by countries, partners, civil society and WHO across all three levels, to ramp up the TB response, and advance TB research and innovation.15 – 16 November: Meeting of beneficiaries of the Global Fund Strategic Initiative on Finding the missing millionsVenue: Palais des CongrèsThis evening meeting, held over two days (3 hours per day), is the annual meeting of the Global Fund Strategic Initiative on Finding the Missing people with TB. The meeting will be open to the 25 country beneficiaries of this strategic initiative. The purpose of the meeting will be to allow National Tuberculosis Programme Managers and other stakeholders to discuss post-COVID recovery, learning from one-another’s experiences and best practices including implementation of innovations.
