A variant of the coronavirus spreading rapidly in India appears more contagious than other versions of the virus, the World Health Organization warned.
In a report published late Tuesday, the organization said the variant, B.1.617, is spreading fast in India, making up more than 28% of samples from positive tests. Data suggests that the strain has a higher growth rate than other variants circulating in the country, which is experiencing a devastating surge in the COVID-19 pandemic.
