Why some Fall River police officers are learning Spanish FALL RIVER — Starting this week, a handful of Fall River police officers will take Spanish lessons in an effort to better to connect with the city’s growing Hispanic population. “Sometimes small things can become big because there’s a lack in how they can communicate with each other,” said Felix Gonzalez, an organizer with United Interfaith Alliance of Southeastern MA. Sixteen officers from the department, including eight who work in Fall River schools as School Resource Officers, will take three hours of classes per week over Zoom for the next 10 weeks.
