View Comments Haloka Marie, raised in Macon County and an enrolled citizen of the Choctaw Nation, is the chairwoman of the newly Minneapolis GGC Sanctioned Support Group for the American Indian Movement of Tennessee & Western North Carolina. She has lived in Nashville since 2013. I wanted to let you know my experience growing up in Middle Tennessee as a federally registered Native American. I grew up on a tobacco farm in Red Boiling Springs, TN that had been deeded to my father's side of my family around 1900, after they moved there from Madison, Bradley, Jackson, Smith, Putnam, and Clay Counties. Do you know how hard it is to grow up attending a school who played against the Algood Redskins and you are an actual Native American yourself?
