Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson has published a report detailing the successes and challenges of his two terms in office ahead of his final few months in the role. Mr Macpherson was the first PCC to be elected in Wiltshire and Swindon during the inaugural elections in 2012 before securing his second term in 2016. During his tenure, he has represented the public during unprecedented events – such as the Novichok poisonings in 2018 and the current pandemic in addition to ensuring Wiltshire Police maintained an efficient and effective service despite significantly reduced budgets. He set up a £1m innovation fund to support community and voluntary initiatives, launched the community policing project within the county which saw a new ‘one team’ approach to policing, invested another £1m to recruit hundreds of special constables, launched restorative justice services via Restorative Together, carried out long-term investment into new technology and commissioned a 24/7 mental health triage system within the police control room
