Dr. Andrew Williams spoke at the Monday, Dec. 14 Board of Legislators Services Committee meeting in response to an idea that Legislator Margaret Haggard, D-Potsdam brought up at the December full board meeting. Dr. Williams said the Rheonix rapid-testing machines that can give same-day COVID-19 results nullifies the need for a mass testing event. "I don't really feel like there's a role for a mass testing site. We have the capacity. We have the availability. We have the excellent turnaround times. And the cost should not be an obstacle," the doctor said. "We have the ability to do nearly 500 tests per day" at St. Lawrence Health System. Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is also using Rheonix machines.
