Weve had a very rainy summer and then i heard the wind and i thought oh wow and when the building started the Ceiling Tiles started flying at me this is when i knew this was more than strong wind. Reporter teacher Linda Johnson was nearby. She ran here fearing the worst for the principal of the Seventh Day Adventist school. Her angels were working overtime last night. They were watching. They were watching over her, yes cause she is fine. Reporter today johnson and others moved quickly to save items that can be reused. The plan for now to hold classes at a nearby sister school. Johnsons husband an army vet who volunteers at the school spearheaded this effort to attach an American Flag to the schools storm bent flag pole. The message. To me it felt like my way of saying everything is going to be okay. We are going to were going come back and were going to rebuild. Reporter well, the cleanup continues at this hour. Debris is scattered everywhere through soy bean fields next to the school, up in the trees, as far away as a hundred yards from the school you can find heavy pieces of metal up in the trees. Rick, that tornado was part of that squall line that really roared across the region last night. An action news Viewer Center this video of what looked like that tornado. When you get that wall cloud and it starts rotating it becomes a if you think cloud. If it touches down it causes the damage as a tornado and in fact thats what the National Weather service said happened. That tornado in tilden township, it hit at 6 40 yesterday evening. Thats when berks county was under a severe thunderstorm warning. Ef1 rating on the enhanced scale which goes up to an ef5. We dont get tornadoes like that in our region fortunately. Maximum sustained winds 105 Miles Per Hour. The width of the path 75 yards wide and it stayed on the ground for threequarters of a mile and thats what really demolished that school in tilden township, pennsylvania. Now, the good news. The front that caused those severe storms has moved off the coast. Satellite6 along with action radar showing whats going on, we have High Pressure right over us. That High Pressure will deflect any of this moisture you see across West Virginia down to the south tomorrow, so at most were looking at a few clouds early in the morning south of philadelphia and that High Pressure also bringing us a refreshing change. Well, thousands of people crowded around the South Carolina statehouse grounds this morning as the Confederate Flag was removed once and for all. People cheered and chanted as a Highway Patrol honor guard removed the flag which will now be housed in a nearby museum. The lowering of the Confederate Flag was front and center at the opening events of the Naacp National convention in philadelphia. President obama will take long in the week long convention. Reporter sharrie over next five days naacp leaders say they plan to tackle social and Economic Issues like the right to vote in the upcoming president ial election, access to healthcare and the excessive use of force by police but for today, it was the lowering of the Confederate Flag in South Carolina that had people talking. Teams from across the nation are here in philadelphia competing as part of the naacps youth achievement program. Among them students from South Carolina who watched as the confederate battle flag was lowered from the statehouse in columbia. It symbolizes that the world is taking a different turn and that its not all about like hating one another but we all can come together as like a community. It feels like we are coming as black people more united and seeing that if we all fit together its going to be a new change thats made and its actually been a change thats made. We made history and the flag is down. Reporter on june 17th 9 black Church Members were gunned down during bible study in charleston, South Carolina. Photos of dylann roof the man charged with the killings surfaced in the days after the rampage posing with the Confederate Flag. Public outcry led state leaders to call for the battle flags removal from the statehouse. Naacp leaders say their fight to bring the flag down began with an economic boycott in South Carolina 15 years ago. What proud moment it is. Not for the state of South Carolina only but for this republic, the United States of america when a symbol of hatred and of division and exclusion was brought down. Reporter naacp leaders gathered at the Pennsylvania Convention center to highlight the five day National Convention featuring appearances before i president S Barack Obama and bill clinton and u. S. Attorney general lynch. The gathering will bring 10. 5 million to the city. The Naacp Convention is needless to say one of the most prestigious conventions we ever book. Saint laurentius in philadelphias fishtown section is in need of nearly 5 million in repairs. The archdiocese shut it down and residents fighting to save the church packed a committee today. The Committee Heard from experts trying to have the building named an Historic Site as well as a lawyer for the opposition who says the church is structurally unsafe and needs to come down. Late today confirmation came from the Historical Commission that it has approved an historic designation for saint laurentius so for now the church will be saved. The u. S. Womens soccer team got a celebration fit for heroes today as world cup fever took over the streets of manhattan. Go u. S. A. , u. S. A. , u. S. A. Chanting u. S. The typhoon is packing wind gusts of up to 125 Miles Per Hour as it heads towards the southeastern coast. Coastal areas have issued the highest level alert. Authorities have evacuated tens of thousands of people. Canceled a number of trains and flights and closed seaside resorts. The typhoon is expected to make landfall by early tomorrow. A Southwest Airlines plane heading to philadelphia had to cancel takeoff today because of engine problems. The plane was moving down the runway at slicks Midway International airport when the crew reported problems with one of the engines. 136 passengers were on board. They then boarded another flight for philadelphia. They made it seem not as scary as it might have been. Im glad we were not up in the air. That would have been terrifying. Southwest says an initial review found nothing wrong with the plane but it is still in maintenance. This is the second time this week that a southwest plane had to abort a takeoff at midway. The fda is beefing up the warning labels because of a link to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. This is the current label showing that it may increase the risk for heart attack and stroke. The new label will drop the word may. Its a subtle change but it is a stronger warning. And it includes overthecounter n saids like motrin advil and aleve also prescription drugs like celebrex. The fda says the drugs can increase the risk for heart attack and stroke by up to 50 percent and that risk can begin with the first dose. Now, as with all medications you have to weigh the risks versus the benefits. For some these drugs will do more good than harm but for others it could be the on that single digit so it is best to talk to your Healthcare Provider about your risk.
