Reporter most people heard of lyme disease but there is another infection that could be spread by the same type of deer tic and for some people it could be deadly. Its overwhelming. Christina is still in shock, her fun loving husband, jeff died nearly two months ago from an infection spread by a deer tic. Its a long hard road ahead. We had so much to do, he was only 50. In late july jeff came down with a fever and sweating and fatigue and it took several days to make the diagnosis. They didnt treat jeff but specializes in Infectious Diseases and that is tran mitted by the same tic as lyme disease. And many people infected wont have symptoms but others the problem is that the disease can get severe if the person doesnt have a normal immune system. That includes people on chemotherapy. Transplant and elderly and anyone without a spleen and jeff had his spleen removed as a child but never caused problems. In 26 years he was sick maybe twice. And she and their children nicole and max are hoping to raise awareness about the disease. Its considered reportable and tracked by many state Health Departments including new jersey and delaware but not pennsylvania. Dr. Fishman says its rare in the state. We see more and more lyme disease in the state so we may start to see an increase. We live across the street from a state park and i want people to know there is other harmful diseases carried by tics and not just lyme disease.
