This one happened in the Day One Motel in the 5,000 block of governor prince boulevard. Authorities responded to the call at 2 00 p. M. Action news has now learned two people are dead. A young Temple University student is lying in a hospital bed tonight because he was simply trying to do the right thing. Authorities say he was attacked from behind while walking two female students home. Action News Reporter chad pradelli live outside Hahnemann Hospital this evening and chad, you spoke to the victims parents. Reporter the parents are obviously troubled by the attack. Theyre inside the hospital as we speak watching their son recuperate as police zero in on the suspect. Something no parents wants. Reporter the call came in around 3 a. M. Sunday. Tanner was in the hospital with serious head injuries. Parents denise and joe rushed two hours from pottsville to Hahnemann Hospital. He does have a busted ear drum. He had a severe concussion. The bone above his ear is fractured. Reporter investigators say the temple sophomore was walking two female students home when he was attacked from behind here at 17th and norris. It looks like our offender attempted to pick a fight with our victim and during the course of that he grabbed him around his throat and threw him to the ground. Hes 140 pounds soaking wet. Hes not a fighter. Hes a basketball player, he likes to play basketball, you know, hes just a friendly kid and he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Reporter he remembers nothing of the attack. Action news has learned the suspect is a High School Senior at an Archdiocesan High School and an accomplished wrestler. Were not naming the 18yearold because he hasnt been formally charged. We do have leads on the suspect so hopefully we can bring this in. I just hope he learns his lessons. Police in lower southampton township have released a surveillance image of a man wanted for groping a teenaged girl. The incident happened last night at the acme on east street road in feasterville. Officials say the suspect touched the girl then ran out of the store. If anyone has information youre asked to Contact Police at the number on your screen here, 215 3571234. Seven students were hurt when a school bus crashed in Delaware County this morning. Police say a minivan sideswiped a bus near the intersection of tillman and west Second Streets in chester. That bus was carrying students from Chester Community charter school. The students who were hurt were taken to the hospital to be evaluated and were discharged. No word if the driver of the minivan will be charged. Detectives in delaware are trying to determine how this car ended up in the brandywine creek. Action news was there as searchers scanned the water near 13th and church in wilmington about 8 00 a. M. Only the tip of the car was breaking the surface as you see. Should be letting this go soon but for now you are parked coming off of i95 west through this point at broad street. I think i would stick with the local vine even though its busy although they should let the traffic move here in the westbound lanes again soon. This is backing things up onto 95 itself. Southbound 95 busy from Second Street into the vine. Headed northbound towards the sixers game on 95 some slowing now at the girard point bridge with speeds in the teens. Earlier broken down vehicle on the schuylkill eastbound by 30th street is cleared but its still slow there as well coming into the city or maybe that sixers game this evening. On day one of the hearing for Michael Slager they played cell phone and dashcam video that showed the shop and the shooting right there. Slager says it shows him acting in a calm demeanor. Prosecutors think the video predicts the callus behavior of the officer. Slager faces up to life in prison. A medical break through in texas is giving some women in our area hope. It is the First Successful birth of a baby in the u. S. Born to a woman who had a uterus transplant. Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us with details on how some local doctors could be doing this procedure in philadelphia. Penn medicine announced just last month that theyre doing a similar Clinical Trial. I spoke with two of the researchers today who are thrilled to hear about the successful birth in texas. Its a medical milestone. For the first time in the United States a woman who had a uterus transplant has given birth. The baby boy was born last month via csection at Baylor University Medical Center in dallas. His mother is part of a Clinical Trial there. Researchers at penn medicine recently launched a similar trial. The goal is to help women without a functioning uterus be able to carry a child with a transplanted uterus. Until last month, it had only been done successfully in sweden. But there is ecstatic it worked in texas. Im so happy for the patient. This is a long haul for them and i can only having spoken to these patients i can imagine this womans joy so im so incredibly happy for her. Reporter the team at penn is that currently screening possible patients. Dozens of experts have signed on to help. Transplant surgeon page porrit says just this surgery itself is extremely complex. The arteries and the veins of the uterus are delicate structures. Theyre in an anatomically challenging place in the body. There might be other transplant surgeons that might disagree with this but i think its the most complicated transplant weve undertaken. Reporter but they have been practicing in the lab and today there is an even greater sense of hope. Now that weve seen that baylor can do it i think that gives everybody more confidence that we can do it. Reporter now, at baylor they used a living donor. The penn team will only be using deceased donors and in all cases, the transplant is temporary. Its removed after a woman gives birth. You no doubt heard by now over the week the Senate Passed new tax code legislation which would overhaul a system thats not been largely changed since the 1980s. Republican senator pat toomey talked about why he supported the bill. He says it would lower the tax burden for most American Families and restructures the business tax code to make American Companies more competitive. This is i think the most important element in driving up wages, in diminishing the income inequality in this country and allowing labor to get a bigger share of our total economy, it is making workers more productive and theres no question that our tax bill does that. In pittsburgh today a group of protesters stood outside senator toomeys office with signs protesting his support of the tax bill. Two women even chained themselves to the office door and the were later removed.
