Just listen; there is no other reason to be out here, other than to see if t there is anything else open and make sure that the restaurants and everything are fine. On a normal day, in fact, even if it snows inland it doesnt snow at the beach because the ocean is so warm it usually keeps it away from the beach and we can go down and wonder around and play in the sawbd r sand. For the first time in montgomery, an accused drug dealer is being held responsible for an overdose death and its apparently becoming more and more common across the cunt of an ongoing effort by Law Enforcement to combat the Opioid Epidemic thats claiming tens of thousand ts of lives. Lindsay watts is live with the story. Reporter sarah, were here in mont Circuit Court where accused drug dealer stephen woods will appear tomorrow. Woods is not only charged with selling fentanyl, but also with Involuntary Manslaughters. Its after police say woods sold to a germantown man who later died of an overdose. We got to take a look at the Court Documents today. According to police the last text on the victims phone were to woods. They outlined an alleged drug deal for fentanyl which is up to 50 times stronger than herein. The last text from the victim was about an hour before he died. It read in part thanks for hooking it up, ill catch you on the other end. This happened over the summer, the man who died dan cotter was 31 years old. I spoke to his father want on go on camera as this criminal case is still underway just yesterday we found out about a similar case in anne arrundel. Police say Jacob Caldwell was arrested also accused of Involuntary Manslaughter for allegedly selling a fatal dose of heroin. The man who died is a 28 year old from pasedena. Charging drug dealers with manslaughter or murder could put them behind bars for decades. Some say its the right thing to do as the Opioid Epidemic continues in our country. Others point to evidence that this doesnt reduce over deaths and could perhaps discourage a person who provided drugs from calling for help in an overdose scenario. Nonetheless, this is certainly something that prosecutors in our area are now looking to and increased penalty for drug dealers and again here at Montgomery County courts its the first time they can remember this happening.
