Now, the Transit Company wants to help ease those setbacks fox5s Melanie Alnwick is live at the vienna metro station with more. Good morning. Reporter good morning, guys. Yeah, reliability is very important to customers. Weve already seen a few people this morning running to try to catch their trains because they really want to make sure that they get to work on time. Now, if you have a registered smart trip card, it is possible you can get a refund if metro is delayed. So much of this goes to trying to keep metros customers and perhaps win back some of those that it has lost. Now, metro says that nine out of 10 of its trains today actually run on time, arrive on time. Still, ridership is down. 30 percent of riders telling metro they still have concerns about reliability. Now after the safe track program and some improved scheduling and new rail cars, too, metro says its so confident in deliver on time performance during rush hour that its ready to back it up with a financial guarantee. It works this way. If your rush hour trip is delayed 15 minutes or more, talking about the opening of the system until 9 30 and 3 00 to 7 30 in the evening youll get a refund for the cost of the delayed trip but you have to have a registered smart card. Heres the way the refunds work. This will be automatic. They will go directly to your smart trip card so youll get an eligible email eligible customers will get an email saying, hey, youre eligible for a respect fund and then it will go onto the card within five business days. Metrobus customers this applies to you, too. However, the system would be a little bit different. There would be a web form for bus customers. Now, if there is a major weather event like a blizzard, a large planned Improvement Project or a major emergency then metro would not offer refunds. Metro says that the program would cost up to 3. 5 million but they believe that this really is money well spent as far as retaining ridership and bringing Customer Confidence back to the system. Today a committee will vote on this proposal. If that Committee Votes it out of committee then it would go to the full board at the end of the month.
