Dark this morning. Few clusters of Power Outages. Northern virginia where dominion has more than 5,000 customers in the dark most in Fairfax County also scattered in alexandria falls charge arlington Prince William and stafford county. Blown transformer at a substation in fairfax is to blame. Pepco reporting outages in the thousands. Some 31,000 outages in d. C. And a few hundred in montgomery and Prince Georges County. There you go as far as power this morning. The big story this morning though comes from the white house. The white house standing by vulgar comments made by President Trump that set off a firestorm. At a white house meeting on immigration, the president reportedly used an expletive to lash out at immigrants coming into the u. S. From certain countries. Fox5s Melanie Alnwick llive outside the white house with the latest more us. Mel. Reporter good morning, guys. The president apparently dropped an s bomb in the oval office as you mentioned. This just a few key lawmakers. They were trying to hash out negotiations about striking some sort of a deal to protect immigrants that were brought here illegally as children. Now, during the meeting, the president reportedly said were going to show it to you right here, why are we having all these people from shole countries come here. Sources inside the meeting say trump was referring to countries in africa, Central America and the caribbean. According to that same source, the president then said the u. S. Should bring in more immigrants from nations like norway. Reaction has been unsparing. The language, the racial implications are reprehensible and deserves the criticism hes going to get. Flip side of this is, a lot of his supporters will agree with that tone and elected him because he uses from time to time that tone. Reporter now, democrats and republicans have condemned the vulgar comment. South Florida Republican ileana ross latham born in cuba said the u. S. A. Stands for inclusion and opportunity not condescension. Someone should tell at potus hes the president and encourage him to start acting like it. Sheila jackson lee says a republicans have to come to grips with a commander in chief who is out of control. I believe that for the sake of the nation collective action by congress may ultimately be necessary to restore order to the executive branch. And that is basically referring to and some people talking about impeachment proceedings or the president being mentally fit to hold office. So, when he makes comments like this, it really just adds fuel to that fire. Now, the white house did not deny the comments in a statement, just saying that President Trump supports immigration policies that welcome people here who have something to contribute to the country. By the way we have a fox5 poll up on twitter about this. 78 percent of you who responded said they do not like live outside the white house im Melanie Alnwick, for local news. Well, continuing on that front mel reaction has been strong and swift its not just lawmakers from both parties condemning the president s remarks. Reaction is now in from those countries the president targeted. Well start with haiti where the ambassador to the United States said in a statement in the spirit of the people of haiti we feel in the statements if they were made the president was either misinformed or miss educated about haiti and its people. Meantime a spokeswoman for the African UnionCommission Said the African Union commission is frankly alarmed that statements by the president of the United States were referring to migrants of african countries and others in such contempt wuss terms. That statement says considering the historical reality of how many africans arrived in the United States during the atlantic slave trade, this flies in the face of all accepted practice. Twitter is full of posts reacting to the president s vulgarity including many from haitians posting pictures of the beautiful landscape of their country. Excuse me. Saying this is what our s hole country looks like. Now by t eighth anniversary of that massive earthquake in haiti. And that led to immigrant protected status for haitians that the president railed against. Also a lot of posts about why people in norway would not want to move to america. Now, as melanie just mentioned we put up a poll on our fox5 d. C. Twitter page which you can see right there asking people are you bothered by the president s reported use of an expletive to describe certain countries during immigration discussions and as you can see right now 71 percent say theyre bothered 29 percent say no. So we invite you of course to weigh in and share your views. Now, happening today President Trump will go from the oval office to the doctors office. The president will today undergo his first medical exam since becoming president. This will happen at Walter Reed Medical Center in bethesda. The exam will not look at the president s mental fitness, though. Though it comes at a time the white house continues to fight reports in a new book that he is mentally and fit. The white house is expected to release a short statement af complete. 7 05 right now. Lets get to tucker right now with the check on the forecast. I should be heading to the medical office today. Thats a car Just Cruising on down the street right there. Windshield wipers on and all.
