From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will hold a virtual public hearing about the clean air permit the zinc reclamation plant near Clymers needs to begin functioning.
The hearing is for a draft permit that IDEM’s Office of Air Quality (OAQ) has issued for the Waelz Sustainable Products plant.
The plant is now being built in the Cass County Agribusiness Park and needs the permit to operate.
Not all draft permits get hearings, but many Cass County residents have requested one.
IDEM makes the draft permit by doing an analysis of an application to determine if it meets appropriate state and federal regulations, based on information provided by the applicant — in this case WSP, according to an email from IDEM Director of External Relations Sarah Bonick.
