Atlanta reinstates killer cop who murdered Rayshard Brooks

On May 5, the City of Atlanta reinstated Garrett Rolfe the police officer who shot and killed Rayshard Brooks with back pay and full benefits. 
The City is reinstating Rolfe because of the Atlanta Civil Service Board’s recent decision alleging that the City failed “to comply with several provisions” and that Rolfe was not provided “his right to due process,” at the time of his dismissal from APD.
Meanwhile, almost a year has passed since Rayshard Brooks’ killing, and Garrett Rolfe has yet to be prosecuted for his crime.
Rolfe still faces charges for murder. His bond prevents him from possessing a firearm and returning to work, so he will remain on administrative leave. Meaning, the killer cop will continue to receive the same salary as he had before his dismissal last summer. ....

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms made an unexpected decision late Thursday, announcing that she will not seek a second term.
Bottoms relayed the bombshell news in a video statement and letter entitled “Dear Atlanta.” She chronicled the hurdles and the triumphs of her administration through her first three-plus years at the city’s helm. Before releasing the statement, Bottoms told supporters and loved ones of her decision in a private phone call.

“As Derek and I have given thoughtful prayer and consideration to the season now before us, it is with deep emotions that I hold my head high, and choose not to seek another term as Mayor,” Bottoms said. ....

Black Lives Matter protesters have descended on Atlanta City Hall after the local police department reinstated a white cop who was fired for killing black man.
Officer Garrett Rolfe, 27, shot Rayshard Brooks, also 27, fatally twice in the back as he ran from cops outside a Wendy s in South Atlanta last June. 
Rolfe, a six-year police veteran, was terminated from the Atlanta Police Department and charged with 11 counts over Brooks death including felony murder. 
But on Wednesday, the Atlanta Civil Service Board reversed the termination of Rolfe s employment, saying the fired officer was not afforded his right to due process .  ....
