Election 2021: City council candidates


In May s general election, one of the races voters will be making their voices heard on is who will be four members of the city council for Amarillo for the next term.
The new members of the city council will join the person elected to be Amarillo s mayor, a race which is also on May s election ballot. A preview for that specific race ran previously in print and is available on the Amarillo Globe-News website.
The Globe-News reached out to all 12 candidates running for the four places on Amarillo s city council. Each candidate was asked a set of questions via email, and those answers are presented in a question and answer format below.  ....

Early voting begins in Amarillo: See what's on the ballot


Beginning Monday, individuals will be able to vote early in both Potter and Randall counties for the upcoming May 1 election, with the ballot including numerous city and school related races throughout the city of Amarillo and the city of Canyon. 
The Amarillo Globe-News has compiled all the information you need to know prior to casting your ballot for May election.
What s on the ballot?
The races which are included in the election include spots on the city council for the city of Amarillo and the city commission for the city of Canyon; the mayor’s race for the city of Amarillo and Canyon; the Amarillo College board of regents; as well as the school boards for the Amarillo Independent School District, Canyon ISD and River Road ISD. ....

First Responders Academy, AmTech projects continue to make progress


The Amarillo City Council recently passed two measures toward the progress of two entities on Plains Boulevard, furthering that part of town as a potential education epicenter. 
First, the council passed a resolution supporting the establishment of Amarillo College’s First Responders Academy. This helped start the process of getting federal funds to help with the project through District 13 Congressman Ronny Jackson. 
According to previous Globe-News reports, entities are eligible to request federal Community Project Funding from current members of Congress. Organizations that are either a governmental entity or a 501c3 nonprofit, have to meet certain criteria to be eligible for funding for the upcoming fiscal year which include, in Jackson’s case, being based in District 13 and having an impact on its constituents. ....
