New Delhi: Singapore on Wednesday said that it reserved the right to invoke a domestic law on the online circulation of fake news against the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal for his tweet about a COVID-19 variant demonstrating more ferocity in infecting children in Singapore.
The southeast Asian city-state has been up in arms since Kejriwal’s tweet in Hindi, which resulted in the Indian high commissioner being summoned to the Singapore foreign ministry on Wednesday. It also issued directions to Facebook, Twitter and SPH, Singapore’s leading media company, to carry a correction notice with all posts relate ....

Members of the Indian diaspora living in Singapore have come out strongly against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet calling for halting flights between India and Singapore, citing a new COVID-19 virus variant in the latter country which is considered to be dangerous for children.

The prevailing reaction among members of the Indian community in Singapore who Connected to India spoke to was overwhelmingly against the Delhi CM, with some calling his actions as “opportunistic, childish and politically motivated”. Some even stated that they didn’t wish to dignify Kejriwal’s tweet with a response.  ....

Pilot thrilled to fly 75 pregnant women, unborn babies safely on a Dubai-Kerala repatriation flight


Dubai: As a pilot with the Indian Navy for 21 years, Captain Yatan Mahlawat had taken part in several emergency missions and rescue operations. However, a passenger flight that he piloted from Dubai to Kochi in the southern Indian state of Kerala last May remains the riskiest mission of his life so far.
Captain Mahlawat, who had joined Air India Express (AIE) after his premature retirement from the Navy in 2016, flew Flight IX434 a COVID-19 repatriation flight that had a record 75 pregnant women on board among 181 passengers on May 16, 2020. It was his second flight as part of the Vande Bharat Mission (VBM), India’s COVID-19 repatriation drive. His first flight was the first VBM flight from Kuwait to Kochi on May 9, 2020. ....

Against the backdrop of China s warning that Bangladesh s possible entry into the Quad would impact ties between Dhaka and Beijing, India today made it clear that the expansion of the four-nation grouping was not discussed.
Asked by an Indian journalist about the issue at a virtual media briefing, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Arindam Bagchi said Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had, after the Quad s first virtual summit held on March 13, said there was no discussion on expansion of the grouping consisting of the US, India, Australia and Japan, reports our New Delhi correspondent. ....
