Navy, DoD respond to COVID-19 in Navajo Nation

SHIPROCK, N.M.
Navy personnel deployed to the Navajo Nation reservation in New Mexico and Arizona to help treat COVID-19 patients.
At the request of the Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 12 Navy personnel deployed to the Navajo Nation reservation in New Mexico and Arizona to provide support to the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico. The medical personnel have been working side-by-side with civilian and U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps health care providers to help treat COVID-19 patients.
The relationship with the embedded nursing staff here has been great from the get go, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Sarah Jagger, critical care nurse and Rural Rapid Response team leader said. ....

Orsega, a nurse practitioner (NP) and AANP Fellow, has served as the Director of Commissioned Corps Headquarters (CCHQ) at the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services since March 2019. In her current role, she directs the personnel, operations, deployment and policy for 6,100 members of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, as well as development of the Reserve Corps. Biden appoints Rear Admiral Susan Orsega as acting surgeon general

President Joe Biden has appointed Susan Orsega to serve as acting surgeon general, according to a posting on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Orsega, who has served as the director of commissioned corps headquarters at the Office of the Surgeon General since March 2019, will be among a handful of nurses appointed to fill the role of surgeon general.
Rear Admiral Orsega is a longtime champion of public health whose visionary leadership has strengthened health care equity and access for our nation, said American Association of Nurse Practitioners president Sophia L. Thomas in a statement. ....
