Fort Riley Tax Center opens with COVID mitigation efforts in place Fort Riley Tax Assistance Center (courtesy photo) The Fort Riley Tax Assistance Center officially opened to soldiers Tuesday and will remain open through the April 15 filing deadline. The center, part of the 1st Infantry Division’s Staff Judge Advocate office, provides free tax preparation assistance to military members, including active duty, eligible family members, military reservists on activated orders for 30 days or more. Tax Center Director Elizabeth Thurston says due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, the tax center will operate as a drop-off service with no appointments. “The soldier will come in, drop off his documents. We will then have the opportunity to prepare the return and after three days we’ll call them back in and at that point they’ll be able to review and sign it,” she said. ....

He was born on May 25, 1927 in Portland to Charles H. and Jean Crook Weymouth. He attended local schools. He married the love of his life, Selma Porter on June 16, 1945. He was drafted into the Army on Sept. 25, 1945 and was stationed in Japan. There he witnessed the devastation Nagasaki endured from the atom bomb. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he returned home and worked on road construction. ....
Dec 23, 2020 A Middlebury man is accused of breaking into a trailer plant and flashing a gun at a worker. Casey Balser, 24, 50812 C.R. 35, allegedly got into the RC Trailers facility along C.R. 39 in Middlebury by breaking a window into the womenâs bathroom around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to details by Elkhart County police in a probable cause affidavit. An employee found Balser and confronted him on the site. As they argued, Balser allegedly pointed a gun at the man. A Middlebury police officer then arrived, and police said Balser refused to give up the gun at first. He was taken into custody a few second later, the affidavit shows. Investigators also found methamphetamine among items Balser allegedly left in the bathroom he had climbed into. ....
