UNITED NATIONS (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 31st December, 2020) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Canadian diplomat Lynn Hastings to serve as the Deputy Special Coordinator for the middle East Peace Process and Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Office of the United Nations Spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.

MANILA, 30 December 2020 In four municipalities of Albay province, where tens of thousands of Filipinos lost their homes in the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly [Goni], 1,030 families that celebrated Christmas in evacuation centers have received building materials, tools and cash to help put a roof over their heads in time for the New Year.

Developing GIT Capacity in Nepal for Disaster Risk Management and Decision Support
23 December 2020, Geneva, Switzerland – UNOSAT delivered a 4-day training in Kathmandu, Nepal, on the Application of Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) for Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Decision Support to different Nepalese ministries, police, and army officials. This training was prepared and delivered in collaboration with the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) in Nepal and the Nepalese National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).
Starting on Monday 7 December, participants from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the Army, and the Police forces of Nepal were hosted at the NDRRMA offices to receive a 4-day training on GIT applications for DRM and Decision Support. The group ranged from selected officials contributing to the decision-making processes of their institutions to practitioners, ....

2020 may be coming to an end, but the challenges we faced this year continue. Millions of people have been affected by the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis across the world. It took away the lives of over 1 million, 690,000 people. In Kazakhstan, coronavirus cases surpassed 191,000 in Kazakhstan. The official number of death cases from Covid-19 is over 2,600, however, the real number may be times larger.  As a consequence of the restrictions, Kazakhstan’s economy shrank 2.7%.
