MUMBAI: A gang of three, including the trusted caretaker of a non-resident Indian (NRI) family’s bungalow in Juhu, allegedly forged the documents of the property worth around Rs 100 crore and sold it for Rs 24 crore to a builder.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has arrested the caretaker, Rajesh Thakur (52), and is on the lookout for two of his alleged associates Suresh Grover and Samarth Singh.
The complainant in the case is builder Jignesh Shah of Stature Lifestyle Home.
Shah said in 2012, Grover had approached him stating his friend, Singh, had the property rights vide a deed of assignment of the NRIs’ bungalow measuring 588 square metre or 6,329 square feet. ....

The police in Imo State have launched a manhunt for a caretaker, whose name has not been ascertained, for allegedly killing a 100-level student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Anthony Chinweotito.
The incident, which happened at the Ezinwanne Lodge, Nekede, caused tempers to flare in the area.
The students of the institution went on the rampage and destroyed the windows and doors of the hostel.
Our correspondent gathered that the caretaker, who is now on the run, had engaged in a heated argument with the occupants of the lodge over rent.
While the students argued that concession should be given to them since they did not enjoy the rents they paid last year as a result of the several months of lockdown, which affected academic activities, the caretaker was said to have insisted that they must pay the new rents in full. ....

The Netherlands have announced that they are suspending all adoptions from abroad with immediate effect, after an official inquiry found many abuses.
The Netherlands is suspending international adoptions after a government commission found that some children had been stolen or purchased from their birth parents, Legal Protection Minister Sander Dekker announced on Monday.
An investigative commission has found that some children from Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka were taken from their parents. The commission reports that officials knew of the abuse since the 1960s.
The commission was set up under pressure from increasing numbers of grown-up adopted children who began to research their roots and often found that their birth documents had been forged or lost, or that their adoption had been illegal. ....
