Loosening COVID-19 restrictions across New York are bringing a measure of financial relief for businesses. Now they just have to find the workers.
A combination of labor shortages across the state prior to the pandemic and enhanced unemployment benefits is now keeping some workers from looking for work, according to New York business owners struggling to fill jobs.
“When the [enhanced unemployment benefits] came out, it became kind of a different labor relationship with the employees,” said John Carr, owner of Adirondack Brewery in Lake George.
“There were a lot of them that, not because they were afraid of COVID or anything, were just like, ‘Why go to work if I can stay home?’” ....

US financial services company ORIX said May 11 it had completed an equity investment in a biorefinery that uses dairy farm waste as a source for renewable natural gas.
For an undisclosed sum, the company said it was investing in a commercial biorefinery in Wisconsin that processes dairy manure into renewable natural gas (RNG). The facility is operated by BC Organics, which is owned by Dynamic Expansion, a developer and operator of US biofuels projects.
ORIX is active in renewable energy globally with a track record of strategic investments in solar, wind and biofuel projects,” Neil Winward, the head of strategic solutions at ORIX, said. “With this transaction, we are now leveraging the expertise of our global renewables platform and increasing investment in the biofuel sector in this region as well.” ....

New Primary Care Clinic completes $11 million in projects at Schuyler Hospital

Schuyler Hospital began treating patients earlier this winter at its new Primary Care Clinic in the hospital’s main building. The Clinic completes the last phase of a three-year, $11 million investment in Schuyler Hospital, the largest since the hospital opened at its current location in 1972. Last spring, the hospital opened its new 15,000-square-foot Inpatient Medical/Surgical Unit.
The new Primary Care Clinic provides advanced medical technology and greater convenience to patients who now find all the hospital’s services in one building. Primary Care had been in a separate building that was uphill and west of the hospital.  Stephen Spaulding, MD, has also moved his family medicine practice from Main Street into the new Clinic.
