Fair Trade USA launches dairy certification program
Fair Trade USA and Chobani, LLC have launched a certification program for US dairy farms and cooperatives to provide financial premiums to dairy farmers and workers, which aim to protect and empower them while raising sustainability standards.
The announcement is an outgrowth of Fair Trade USA’s partnership with Chobani.  The fair-trade certification program is available to milk producers throughout the US.
Fair Trade Certification is intended to provide farm owners and cooperatives with an opportunity to differentiate, increase engagement with consumers, and receive a financial premium for their investments. Certification also provides support for farm workers in an industry that can face challenges in workforce availability, working hours, and farm safety. ....

Worker shortage in New York threatens COVID economic recovery. Here's why

Loosening COVID-19 restrictions across New York are bringing a measure of financial relief for businesses. Now they just have to find the workers. 
A combination of labor shortages across the state prior to the pandemic and enhanced unemployment benefits is now keeping some workers from looking for work, according to New York business owners struggling to fill jobs.
“When the [enhanced unemployment benefits] came out, it became kind of a different labor relationship with the employees,” said John Carr, owner of Adirondack Brewery in Lake George. 
“There were a lot of them that, not because they were afraid of COVID or anything, were just like, ‘Why go to work if I can stay home?’” ....

The Sundance Institute named on Monday the artists and projects for the first group of its upcoming summer labs. The group includes 12 fellows for the directors and screenwriters labs and nine artists participating in the Native and Indigenous lab which focuses on the development of storytellers from those backgrounds through feature film, episodic work and other pursuits. One artist will participate in both labs.
Elements of this year’s labs will take place digitally via Sundance Collab. ....
