Partnerships urged for industry, government on AV deployment amid new Tesla crashes

Stakeholders in autonomous vehicle technology are calling for industry and government to come together to create a common framework for safely testing and deploying AVs in the U.S.
During an industry roundtable event held virtually on May 13, safety experts and executives from AV technology companies discussed the importance of lawmakers and federal agencies such as NHTSA working with stakeholders to develop common standards that can speed the deployment of these technologies without stifling innovation.
We need, first of all, for the public to understand why this is just bigger than saving lives on the road. VW To Buy Back 46 Vehicles In The United States As Part Of A Recall, Is Yours On The List?

Volkswagen is offering to repurchase a small number of cars in the United States as part of a new recall campaign conducted with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The action concerns the 2017 Touareg, Tiguan, Golf, e-Golf and CC, the 2016-2017 Passat, the 2018 Atlas, and the 2018 and 2019 Golf R. In total, 46 cars will be bought back, with the recall population determined by reviewing internal records. The decision comes subsequent to an audit report.
“These internal-use vehicles were sold without confirmation that they were built to all applicable regulatory requirements, and may have been modified prior to sale”, the safety agency notes. “As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of various Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.” ....
