A Republican candidate in the special election to replace the late U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, R-Arlington, is facing intense backlash and has lost two of her biggest supporters after saying she does not want Chinese immigrants in the United States.

Young Kim and Michelle Steel to rescind their endorsements of her on Friday. Young Kim and Steel are the first Korean American GOP women to serve in Congress. ....

The Korean blacksmith

The Korean blacksmith
By Robert Neff
According to an old Korean saying, there are no good knives in a blacksmith s house, meaning the blacksmith sells all the knives he makes and keeps only the old worn-out ones for his own family s use. It is a matter of interpretation as to whether this implied the blacksmith was too poor to afford his own wares or that he was negligent to his own family s needs.

Their training and skill allowed them to command a monthly wage of $9 while Korean miners ― whose work was especially difficult and dangerous ― received only $7.50. The next tier of Korean employees were the shovelers, ore car operators and mill employees who received $6, and then the common laborers who received $4.50. ....

Muñoz watched as family members stood outside the building and spoke to their loved ones on cell phones, looking at each other through closed windows. The isolation was difficult but necessary to lessen the risk of the virus spreading to the 122 people living at the facility. ....
