In Cagliari, he became the first Italian in 15 years to capture an ATP Tour title on home soil. Now the Turin native is ready to keep the momentum going as he leads the field at the Emilia-Romagna Open, an ATP 250 event in Parma.  Sonego, who achieved a career-high No. 28 in the FedEx ATP Rankings earlier this year, is one of three Italian players including Stefano Travaglia and Salvatore Caruso flying the flag at the ATP Tour’s first event in Parma. Benoit Paire, Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Jan-Lennard Struff are also set to hit the court.

Roger Lands In Tricky Quarter Of Geneva Draw | ATP Tour

Swiss joined in top half by Ruud Roger Federer was placed into a tough section of the Gonet Geneva Open draw on Friday, ahead of his tournament debut at the ATP 250 next week. In a loaded top quarter, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will face Australia’s Jordan Thompson or Pablo Andujar of Spain in the second round. If he can navigate his way through that match, Federer will likely face a difficult quarter-final encounter. Federer shares the top quarter of the draw with Santiago champion Cristian Garin and former World No. 3 Marin Cilic. Fifth seed Garin will begin his title bid against Marton Fucsovics, while Cilic will meet #NextGenATP Swiss Dominic Stephan Stricker.

Alexander Zverev wins second Madrid Open title

“It is great (to win this title), especially after losing my last three finals I played at Masters 1000 events,” Zverev said. “This is definitely special and I just want to enjoy this one.” Zverev trailed 5-0 in the tie-break and although he stormed back to lead 7-6, his big-serving Italian opponent, seeded eighth, won four of the next five points to take the first set. Zverev, though, was able to up his intensity and drew a string of errors from Berrettini at 4-4 to get the break before holding serve to take the match to a decider. Berrettini dropped serve in the fifth game of the third and final set and then again at the last as Zverev staked a claim to be considered as a contender for the French Open, which gets under way this month.
