Sri Lankan shares gain over 1% on financial, industrial boost

June 3 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan shares closed over 1% higher on Thursday, helped by gains in financial and industrial stocks.
The CSE All-Share Index ended up 1.07% at 7,516.20, posting gains in six of the last seven sessions.
Conglomerates LOLC Holdings and Richard Pieris & Company Plc were the top boosts to the index, rising 4.9% and 7.9%, respectively.
Sri Lanka reported 3,306 confirmed coronavirus cases on Thursday, taking the total to 192,547, while deaths rose by 39 to 1,566, according to health ministry data here.
The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, said bit.ly/3fM7tB1 on Wednesday it had airlifted emergency medical supplies to Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka to help curb the COVID-19 pandemic. ....

June 3 (Reuters) - Gold slid as much as 2.3% on Thursday as better-than-expected U.S. employment and service sector data propelled the dollar higher and boosted expectations that the strong economic readings may reignite taper talk from the Federal Reserve.
Bullion’s retreat also spilled into other precious metals, with silver slipping as much as 4.3% and platinum shedding 3.7%.
Spot gold was down 1.9% at $1,871.91 per ounce by 1:43 p.m. EDT (1743 GMT), after falling to its lowest level since May 20 at $1,864.39. U.S. gold futures settled down 1.9% at $1,873.30. ....

LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - Indonesia has emerged as the world’s dominant producer of nickel over the last 10 years.
Mined production last year was 771,000 tonnes, twice as much as the world’s second largest producer the Philippines and accounting for almost a third of global output, according to the International Nickel Study Group (INSG).
It is only going to grow further as investment, particularly from China, floods into Indonesia’s nickel sector.
National output could exceed a million tonnes this year and, according to Macquarie Commodity Strategy consultant Jim Lennon, will reach more than 2.5 million tonnes by the end of the decade, at which point it will have exceeded last year’s global production. ....
