Bill would stabilize state education funding amid COVID-19 disruptions

CONCORD â The House budget writing committee heard no opposition to maintaining current levels of state aid to school districts at a public hearing Tuesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, student enrollment and the method the state uses to determine the number of students who live in poverty are significantly lower than a year ago.
The lower enrollments would result in school districts losing about $90 million in state aid.
House Bill 623 would have the state distribute the same amount of education aid in the next two fiscal years, 2022 and 2023, as it distributes this fiscal year, 2021.
Lawmakers increased state aid to education by $178 million in the biennial budget approved in September 2019 by returning stabilization grants to their original level and providing additional aid to property poor districts and those with a greater number of low-income families. ....

MISSOULA â We ve all been watching enrollment numbers at the University of Montana since they started dropping in 2011.
Amid all the challenges on college campuses this year, MTN News took a look at how things are shaking out this semester.
The COVID-19 pandemic impacted every corner of campus at the University of Montana including enrollment.
Spring semester enrollment is down 7.3% since last year and in-state enrollment dropped 20.2%.
âBut weâre achieving things, and weâre getting it done, and I think these numbers reflect that,â observed University of Montana Director of Communications Dave Kuntz. ....

SWOSU Plans to Be On Campus In Fall 2021 – Enrollment Underway

Registration for Southwestern Oklahoma State University enrollment and orientation is underway for high school students who plan to attend SWOSU this fall.
New Student Orientation will take place virtually in 2021 but the university plans to continue on-campus classes this fall.
All incoming freshmen students must go through New Student Orientation to enroll in Fall 2021 classes. Visit the New Student Orientation link on the SWOSU website for more info.
Taler Alexander, assistant director of enrollment management, said new students are also encouraged to follow the New Student Orientation social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. ....
