Lillian Blancas, who died Monday from COVID-19, won with nearly 10,000 votes in the runoff race for El Paso Municipal Court 4.
Blancas, 47, passed away Monday after being in the hospital since Nov. 9 battling the disease.
Enrique Holguin, who was running against Blancas, finished with about 40% of the votes.
The El Paso City Council will vote to appoint a judge to seat, according to Deputy City Clerk John Glendon.
Blancas attended Burges High School and the University of Texas at El Paso. ....

LUBBOCK, Texas (Press Release) - The Texas Tech University Board of Regents elected J. Michael Lewis and Mark Griffin, chairman and vice chairman, respectively, during a regularly scheduled meeting of the board. The two will serve two-year terms, effective immediately.
“Congratulations to Regent Lewis on his selection by the board to serve as the next chairman of the Board of Regents,” said Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., chancellor of the TTU System. “Regent Lewis has been a strong supporter for our System and component universities, and I look forward to continue working closely with him during his tenure leading our board.” ....
